Fees in Workers’ Compensation Cases
Many people are worried about contacting a lawyer because of the fear of high legal fees. In Minnesota, there is no risk or initial fee in hiring a workers’ compensation attorney. Attorneys are paid 25 percent of the first $4,000 of benefits recovered, and then 20 percent of any benefits recovered after. This is typically subject to a maximum fee of $13,000. There are provisions in the law that can require some of the attorney’s fees to be paid in part (or entirely) by the insurance company without affecting a person’s benefits.
